Your Instructor
Rosemary and Daniel Joyce
As Rosemary and Daniel become parents to four extraordinary children and Rosemary was working as a registered nurse, a doula and a childbirth educator, they came to realise that although most families expect to have a positive birth experience, a positive birth experience was only experienced by the lucky few. Rosemary and Daniel developed a passion for making evidence-based information available to all expectant families in an easy to understand format. Through their work with The Birthing Room, hundreds of families have become empowered to achieve their own positive, unique birth experience.
As facilitators for The Parenting Place Toolbox Parenting Courses, Daniel and Rosemary have been helping families have positive parenting experiences for almost a decade.
The course material for The Birthing Room Online Classes has been created by Rosemary, with Daniel in charge of technical directing.
Jan Wicksteed
Growing, birthing and breastfeeding her children absolutely changed Jan's view of life. She came into her parenting journey expecting breastfeeding to come naturally. Her grandmothers, mother and aunts had all breastfed, so she expected she would too. Jan had no idea that who she chose as a midwife, where she chose to birth, how relaxed she was in those early weeks would/could affect the type of birth she had and her breastfeeding and mothering experience. Thankfully Jan had a very patient baby who kept letting her know what he needed and between the two of them they worked out their way. It was this experience that inspired Jan to become a childbirth educator and a La Leche League leader (now retired). Like Rosemary and Daniel, Jan agrees evidence-based knowledge and a holistic approach is what New Zealand families need to enjoy an empowered pregnancy, birth and early parenting experience.
We are privileged to have had Jan research and write the breastfeeding information for this course, and look forward to having Jan as part of one of our live Q & A sessions.
